Understanding Weaving As a Craft

Weaving has been the technique using which people have created clothes for ages. This technique has developed so much that what initially started as the simple craft of interlocking various strands of threads with bare hands, has now developed into a vast industry that employees millions of people across the globe and also covers the bodies of the entire human race.
Proof has been found that the craft of weaving was known to the human even as early as the Old Stone Age. According to other theories, the Egyptians have been credited with the invention of the crafty of weaving and they were known to be very talented in this art.
Weaving has also been known as a skill that was extensively practiced by ancient American tribes and has also been a dominant craft in the Muslim culture.
Moreover the craft of weaving has also been related to mythology since ancient times. In the societies that lie to the west of Central Asia and the Iranian plateau, the craft of weaving is still considered as a mystery that only women can unravel. In some societies, the role of weavers is given only to the goddesses of the culture. However, in Egyptian culture the role reversal is apparent with men predominately assuming the role of weavers.
Despite the tremendous advancement in weaving technology, there are various regions across the globe where the craft of weaving is still practiced in its most ancient format. The hand woven clothes and artifacts have become a symbol of heritage of these regions. Although the hand woven cloth is in much demand, the declining number of people who practice this craft, has also seen a decline in the supply.
It is vital that in order to keep this craft alive, the artisans are provided the facilities that encourage them to continue practicing the craft. This includes financial assistance to such people as that is definitely one of the major reasons behind the decline of the craft. Other facilities might include recognition of the craft as a world heritage and providing better opportunities to the artisans to sell their wares.
With a little assistance, the craft of weaving can be revived and this dying heritage can get a new life. It would definitely be a shame to loose a talent that initiated the process of providing clothing for the entire human race.
