The Influence of Bollywood On Fashion In India

The fashion for women in India has always been influenced by various factors, and among these the most significant one is Bollywood. The Indian film industry has never ceased to define how Indian women like to dress. Since, the times movies became a mode of entertainment in India, they also took on the role of the fashion designers of Indian women.

When it is apparent that the leading lady of a movie can woo a handful of young men with just the style she adorns, the clothes she wears and all the associated accessories, it automatically entices the women to follow their footsteps and win over the men in their lives. It might not be possible to use the same material as the actress, but then it is more important to follow the style rather than the material of the cloth.

During the earliest era of Bollywood flicks it was the innocent saree draped actresses with their flower cut blouses and neatly plaited pigtails, who used to influence the dressing style of the average Indian women. Then came an era when the sarees gave way to suits which were further replaced by bellbottoms, flowing skirts and middies. As the women fashion evolved in India, the actresses did not mind wearing shorter clothes and body fit jeans and other similar dresses, despite the criticism and the bad publicity they received for it.

No matter what the leading ladies of Bollywood wore, all their styles were promptly adopted by the average Indian women who felt satisfied in being led into a world of fashion that was ruled by these glamorous divas. But, in the modern times when the Indian women have evolved in numerous other ways, their fashion statements are not just defined by Bollywood movies and divas. The women now have evolved a lookout that defines their style statements in keeping with the fashion trends adopted by women across the globe.

For the modern Indian woman fashion does not just involve the way she dresses, but it is also concerned with the way she carries herself. For her, her style statement is the way in which people perceive her and also how she presents herself in the presence of her peers and contemporaries. It is safe to say that women fashion in India has evolved with the changing times and changing trends.
